Bhutan beats Sri Lanka in last-gasp win

Bhutan beat Sri Lanka 1-0 in the Africa Under-20 Championship in Nepal on Saturday.

They lost the first match of Group B 2-1. This was Bhutan’s third win over Sri Lanka in recent times.

In the first half, Bhutan took the lead at the Anfa Sports Complex. In the 21st minute, Jetsuen Doji scored the winning goal.

At the start of the second half, Sri Lankan captain Shanan Rashad was shown a straight red card after his shot from outside the box hit Bhutan goalkeeper Sonam Tenzing. A free kick from the edge of the box went wide of the post.

Bhutan, who was one man down, took the lead again in the first minute of extra time. The goal was scored by substitute Nagawan Chopel.

Bhutan won after losing 0-1 to India in their first match of Group B. India will face Sri Lanka in the final match of the group stage on Sunday and a win would give Sri Lanka a chance to advance to the semi-finals.
