Bangladeshi citizen Arafat Hussain was arrested by the Maldives Immigration Department on suspicion of using dog meat to prepare food.

Bangladeshi citizen Arafat Hussain was arrested following a tip-off received by the Immigration Intelligence Bureau, the bureau said today.

He was arrested by the Immigration Department with the help of the police.

He was reportedly detained by immigration authorities while visiting a hair salon and apparently tried to disguise himself.

Arafat Hussein has been heavily criticized by the public. The Cat Welfare Association, a private organization dedicated to caring for dogs in the Malay region, has also brought Arafat’s case to public attention. The association accused Arafat of capturing, slaughtering, cooking and selling its meat.

The Immigration Department is conducting a major operation to combat illegal immigration.
