Cota: Staying away from social media and focusing on self-study before exams was the key to success for Ved Lahoti, who topped the IIT entrance exam JEE-Advanced with the highest score. A resident of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Lahoti attended one of the several coaching centres in Kota, Rajasthan, which is a hub for competitive exam preparation.
“I spent three to four hours a day studying on my own and I often scored 332-340 marks in regular exams. So I was confident,” Lahoti told PTI.
“Since this paper was slightly easier compared to the exam paper, I succeeded,” he said. Lahoti from Delhi district topped the IIT entrance exam JEE-Advanced, securing 355 out of 360 marks, the highest ever score. The previous highest score was 352 in 2022.
Lahoti said he had stayed away from social media for the past two years while preparing for the exams in Kota. “In a routine exam, I scored low but instead of getting disappointed, I focused on my weaknesses,” he said in response to a question.
Lahoti’s father Yogesh Lahoti said he was proud of his son’s performance and it was nothing short of a miracle. “It is nothing short of a miracle that my son has scored the highest ever score in the JEE-Advanced exam. I had expected this as my son was gifted since childhood, so we named him Ved after Ved Vyas,” Yogesh Lahoti, an engineer at a private company, told PTI.
Maharshi Ved Vyas was credited with dividing the Hindu scripture Vedas into four categories. A total of 180,200 candidates appeared for the two examination papers of IIT-JEE Advanced, of which 48,248 candidates, including 7,964 women, qualified.
JEE-Main is the entrance exam for engineering colleges across the country and also the qualifying test for JEE-Advanced. The exam was held on May 26. The Joint Seat Allotment (JoSAA) counselling will begin on Monday.
