Parliamentary Committee 241 decided to investigate the military agreement signed by the previous government with India.
The committee was proposed by Ahmed Azan, MP for Hittadu Central constituency, who recommended to the committee that a parliamentary inquiry should be conducted between 2018 and 2023 to investigate the actions of the then government and heads of various institutions that undermined the country’s independence and sovereignty.
It was also proposed to set up a four-member subcommittee to plan the inquiry.
Ajan’s motions included the hydrographic agreement signed between India and Sri Lanka, the port being developed in the northern desert, the Doniya aircraft agreement and the hydrographic agreement.
In addition, Mamijili MP Gasim Ibrahim has launched an investigation into Sri Lanka’s actions in the Chagos case.
The committee approved the proposals of two members. A subcommittee consisting of four members will also be formed. The subcommittee members are:
Ahmed Azan, MP for Hisad Central constituency
Ahmed Nazim, MP of Dibrugarh constituency
Abdul Ghafoor Musa, Member of Parliament for Hanima Addu Constituency
Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram
