“Slavery, colonialism, coups and military intervention in other countries are just part of the dark and shameful history of US and UK meddling in the world,” Kanani said on his X account on Sunday.
He mentioned the role played by the United States and Britain in the Iranian coup that overthrew the government of democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh on August 19, 1953. The two Western countries orchestrated the coup, known as the “28th Coup,” to serve their own interests in Iran, including British oil interests.
The Iranian spokesman stressed that the United States and Britain will forever be held accountable for their shameful act of overthrowing the elected government of Mossadegh through the military coup on the 28th and for the crime of providing political, security and military support to the tyranny.
He went on to say that with such a dark record, these two Western countries today support the “false, racist Israeli regime” and genocide in Gaza, while they consider themselves the standard-bearers of democracy and human rights.
