Kathmandu, August 3. The cabinet meeting on July 16 recommended a list of 18 ambassadors. But on July 27, only 17 members of the Foreign Affairs Department arrived at the Parliamentary Special Committee Hearings. The name of Kanta Rizal, who was recommended as ambassador to Australia, was not on the list that arrived at the Parliamentary Secretariat.

Earlier, she returned to the country on June 31 after completing her term as ambassador to Israel and was again recommended as an ambassador by the Nepali Congress quota. However, according to sources in the Nepali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his name was not sent for a hearing due to a serious notice issued by the Nepali Embassy in Israel.

Kumar Bahadur Shrestha, deputy chief of mission at the embassy, told the government that a woman who travelled to Israel with Rizal’s assistant did not return to Nepal with him. After becoming ambassador, Rizal travelled to Israel with two of his associates. One of them returned to Nepal, but the other accomplice is hiding in Israel.

DCM Shrestha wrote a “Note Verbal” (NV) after the Israeli government requested a written notification regarding the return/non-return of Rizal’s entourage.

Foreign Affairs sources said Rizal’s name was not submitted to the congressional committee because it raises serious ethical issues. “Rizal’s name was not recommended after seeing the cases where he was accused of fleeing or aiding his accomplices in fleeing. The person who is alleged to have fled has not been in contact with anyone, so it is impossible to send his name,” one official said.

Former ambassador Rizal claimed that her assistant suddenly disappeared when he arrived at the airport to return to Nepal on 31 Asar (July 15). Rizal said: “His passport and other documents were with me, but he ran away in the next few days, but his documents are still safe with me.”

In Israel, Nepalese workers are illegally present because they earn good money in various jobs, including as paramedics. It is speculated that the woman whom Rizal took in as an assistant is also hiding as an illegal resident. A foreign official said: “It is his duty to bring back his accomplices.”
