Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 away, opening the new Premier League season with a victory.

Chelsea started the match well at Stamford Bridge, but City took the lead earlier. Norwegian striker Alin Braut Haaland scored the winner in the 18th minute. He scored from the penalty spot after running past Chelsea defenders Levi Colville and Mark Kukrea and heading the ball over the head of Robert Sanchez. The referee decided to accept the goal after considering VAR. Holland made his 100th appearance for City and scored his 91st goal.

Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson scored late in the first half but the referee ruled it offside.

Jackson’s volley early in the second half was saved by Manchester City goalkeeper Anderson Moraes. Pedro Neto, the Portuguese winger recently signed by Chelsea, almost scored in the second half. Chelsea captain Enzo Fernandes’ cross went off Neto’s crossbar. Manchester City’s Rico Lewis saved the ball.

Manchester City’s second goal came in the 84th minute when former Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic scored. He shot from outside the penalty area after receiving a pass from Chelsea’s half. The ball flew into the goal, hit the hands of Chelsea goalkeeper Sanchez, and hit the post.

In another match, Brentford beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at home. In the 29th minute of the first half, Brian Mbuemo gave Brentford the lead.

Palace’s only goal came in the 11th minute, through Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock. Then, with 14 minutes left, Yoan Vissa scored the winner.
