Following the incident, the Attica Hellenic Police Union issued a statement stating the following:

“Dear colleagues, through their posts on social media, some continue to harbor inexplicably repressive and racist prejudices against the police. Their deep hatred for the police is expressed at every opportunity. In this way, they think they are liked, but by whom?

Any derogatory description of the police does not touch us. On the contrary, perhaps it is proof that we are doing well, because a minority of obsessives continue to abuse us. It is absurd that the abuser, MEP Nikos Pappas, by virtue of his position and ability, must represent the people, instead of expressing himself with abusive, racist and derogatory descriptions of combat police officers.
