Apple announces iPhone’s NFC technology will be open to other apps on iOS

Apple recently announced that NFC technology for iPhone will be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Apple said it will introduce it to more countries later.

With this change, other apps will also be able to use the iPhone’s NFC and secure element technology for contactless payments. Until now, this option was only available for Apple Pay.

Double-click the side button of your iPhone to change the default app. In addition, you will be able to use other apps instead of Apple Wallet. This includes car locks, company badges, student ID cards, house locks, hotel locks, rewards cards, and event tickets. Apple says government ID cards will also be used in the future.
