Osuuskauppa Arina is building an automated assisted collection centre in Limingantulli in collaboration with Prisma.
With an investment of 10 million euros, an additional area of around 1,400 square meters will be built behind Prisma, where a collection center will double the delivery volume of the online store for food products in the Oulu region.
Arina convenience store branch manager Mikko Poulsen Olu said that online food shopping is in short supply and the order volume continues to grow.
Arina will centralise home delivery orders from its food online store and Prisma pick-up orders from Limingantulli at the new collection centre. Other stores in the area will still have to collect pick-up orders from the relevant locations.
– Although we are talking about automated assisted collection centers, it specifically refers to the function of assisting employees. Bolso said in a press release that the robot brings the selected products to collectors quickly and easily, but the collection work and, most importantly, ensuring the quality of the products are still done by Arena people.
Bolso said the collection centre, which is due to open in early 2026, will also provide new employment opportunities, and any additional hiring needs will become clear closer to the collection centre opening.
The automated collection centre currently being planned will be the first collection centre for online food purchases in northern Finland and the northernmost in the world.
– With the help of robots, a basic selection of products is collected from the warehouse and, if necessary, the orders are replenished from the store side, Arina, Online Store Development Manager Artur Viholainen Tell.
Vicholainen said the new collection center with its automation solutions and robotics will help employees when they don’t spend time walking around the store. According to him, the change will be noticeable to customers because there is more space in the store for shopping.
Arina said the employment impact during the construction phase of the collection center is about 20-25 person-years of work. The project has received a construction permit and construction work will begin in the fall.
