The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure informed the Council of Ministers that the 2024/2025 navigation activities of the Mali River Navigation Company will soon begin.
The mission of Mali River Navigation Company is to provide public services by opening up inland waterways to the outside world.
People along the Niger River prefer river transport by boat as it ensures communication between the southern and northern regions of Mali.
By transporting goods, the company provides the right supplies to enclave areas that can only be reached by river, especially during winter and river flooding.
Given the satisfactory evolution of the Niger River water level, the 2024-2025 navigation campaign will begin on August 15, 2024, with the departure of the Modibo Keita ship from Mopti to Kabala, Timbuktu region. This campaign is planned to ensure 66 rotations.
