The chairman of the government’s negotiating team, Vern Gill, was recently reminded of the discontent that exists as a result of the lack of a quick resolution to talks between the government and national unions.
The reminder came from Johann M. Harewood, general secretary of the National Workers’ Union (NWU), who called the stalled negotiations “an inordinate delay.”
“The two parties met several months ago to discuss the memorandum of proposal submitted by the Northwest Women’s Alliance on behalf of its members. Since then, the Northwest Women’s Alliance has been anxiously awaiting positive feedback from the government’s negotiating team to facilitate a successful conclusion of the negotiations,” Harwood said in a press release.
The last agreement between the government and the North West Workers Union expires at the end of March 2022. The North West Workers Union strongly believes that given the current economic and social environment facing workers, every effort should be made to complete these outstanding negotiations and implement benefits.
The North West Women’s Union represents hourly workers, daily wage workers and non-regular workers employed by the government, town and village councils.
