Proposals invited by August 30
Ascension Island Government is pleased to announce the establishment of the Ascension Island Marine Protected Area Community Trust (AIMPACT) Fund and is inviting communities to submit bids for project funding by Friday 30 August 2024.
Background – On 29 August 2019, the Ascension Island Government designated a fully protected marine protected area covering its entire 445,000 square kilometre exclusive economic zone (EEZ). AIMPACT, operated by Blue Marine, was established with a £2 million donation from a long-term supporter of the Blue Marine Foundation to implement measures to realise the socio-economic benefits of the Ascension Island Marine Protected Area (MPA) for the benefit of the people of Ascension Island.
Under the terms of reference (ToR) for the fund, at least £80,000 per year will be used to support Ascension projects falling into the following four categories:
- Community
- educate
- environment
- heritage
The AIMPACT Fund Project Advisory Group will assess the project bids against the Terms of Reference and make a funding recommendation to Blue Marine for final decision. The AIMPACT Fund Project Advisory Group is comprised of representatives from ten different local community groups and AIG members. We encourage bids from all sources, including individuals and organisations. Please submit your bids by email using the bid form by Friday 30 August, aigenquiries@ascension.gov.ac The bidding will be held twice a year.
The Terms of Reference and Bid Request Form are available on the AIG website, which can be accessed via the following link:
