Ascension: An Island Vision Statement

Ascension Island Government (AIG) is pleased to announce that UK Government Ministers have approved and published theAscension: An Island Vision Statement”. The overall aim of the statement is to identify opportunities for collaboration on joint projects and guide future UK Government investment in Ascension Island.
The statement is a strategic framework between the AIG, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) around four main objectives.
- Defence operations and security
- Resilient infrastructure
- Sustainability and the Environment
- Community
The statement is an important part of the UK Government’s future work on Ascension and follows a joint FCDO/MOD senior official visit to Ascension in November 2023 (see AIG Notice 339/2023, 22 November 2023). The release of the joint statement demonstrates the UK Government’s ongoing commitment to Ascension and recognises the importance of the community’s strategic and operational role on Ascension. It is also a direct result of senior UK Government officials witnessing first-hand the opportunity for organisations to strengthen their collaboration on Ascension.

The Chief Executive welcomed the Minister’s approval and publication Simon Minshull and said “the Vision sets out a framework that will enable AIG to work more closely with key partners. It also reaffirms Ascension Island’s importance as a strategic UK defence asset and commits to advancing sustainable development efforts and protecting the island’s natural environment.”
