Pakistan’s former intelligence chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid has been arrested.

He was arrested for abusing his power and raiding some private businesses in violation of regulations.

Fayyad’s arrest has drawn criticism from many, with the opposition saying he was arrested because of his close ties to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The opposition also said it could be part of a series of arrests of anti-government leaders.

Fayyez served as the head of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from 2019 to 2021 during Imran Khan’s rule. In April 2022, Imran was removed as prime minister due to a no-confidence vote.

The Pakistani military said in a statement that Faiz’s arrest was ordered by the Supreme Court and is currently being heard by a military court.
