Kathmandu, July 29. UML will nominate Thakur Gayre as the Chairman of the National Board Principles, Policies and Responsibilities Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Committee.
It is a joint committee of both chambers of the Federal Parliament (the National Assembly and the House of Representatives).
According to the leaders, initially discussions were held to name National Assembly member Tulkumari Dahal as a candidate. However, the leaders said Thakur Gayle would be nominated as the committee chairman candidate after it was considered that the chairman should be chosen by the members of the House.
However, another House of Representatives member, Lal Prasad Sawan Limbu, who on Tuesday became a member of the National Policy and Responsibility Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, is also eager to become the chairman of the committee.
Lal Prasad Sawan Limbu has replaced Hemraj Rai who was earlier serving on the committee. Speaker Ghimire had proposed the change of members in the assembly session. The assembly has agreed.
The nominations for the chairmanship will be registered on Wednesday. Padya Prasad Pand, secretary general of the Union Parliament Secretariat, issued a notification and informed that the registration of candidates will be fixed from 2 pm to 4 pm on Wednesday.
The list of candidates will be announced on Wednesday at 4pm. The election of the Chairperson will be scheduled on Thursday at 3pm in the relevant committee meeting room.
Elections for the chairperson of the parliamentary hearings committee will also be held on Thursday.
The Congress will nominate Ishwaridevi Neupane as the chairman of the committee. The Congress and the UML will appoint one chairman each in the two joint committees of the Union Parliament. Hence, an understanding was reached between the two parties to register candidates.
