George and Louise ran the Tamworth Brewing Company for many years, during which time they won CAMRA’s Pub of the Year award twice, as well as various other accolades, bringing this small Staffordshire town national prominence.
Visitors from all over the UK come to the Tap Bar to enjoy a wide range of real ales and take in the live entertainment and events.
The couple will be presented with the prestigious Freedom of the Borough Medal at a ceremony at the Town Hall alongside Tamworth Mayor, Councillor Gareth Coates.
The decision to bestow the honor on George and Louise was unanimous at the full council meeting in May.
Councillor Nova Arkney, responsible for infrastructure, heritage and local economy, said: “Tamworth Tap has given its success back to the people of Tamworth, bringing an old building back to life and attracting locals and visitors to our town. We are delighted to award George and Louise Honorary Fellows of the Borough.”
