On Thursday, August 8, 2024, at around 4:30 p.m., a 47-year-old man from Bregenzerwald set out on a hike alone from his home in Egg. When he did not return as expected, his wife reported him missing.
This sparked a massive search operation involving mountain rescue, alpine police, a police helicopter, several search dogs and volunteers.
Investigations revealed that the hiker was crossing Alpe Brongen towards Tristenkopf. At around 11:30 am on Friday, August 9, 2024, mountain rescuers found the missing man lifeless in impassable terrain approximately 500 meters northeast of Tristenkopf. He had apparently fallen approximately 100 meters on the old trail to Tristenkopf. There is no evidence of third-party negligence.
