An employee of e-EFKA was accused of bribery because she demanded €4,000 from a woman who was responsible for paying her mother’s disability benefit case and the employee was immediately suspended.
“The e-EFKA Administration has today decided to immediately suspend and subject to disciplinary action the employee accused of bribery, condemning corruption in the clearest possible way. The incident of which the employee is accused, besides being serious, goes against the values of transparency, ethics and integrity that govern the functioning of our institution.
The agency’s administration remains committed to ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and good evaluation of all aspects of its service operations.
We will strengthen and continue to tighten internal controls to ensure the smooth operation of e-EFKA and protect the public interest”.
He asked for €4,000 to settle his disability benefits case
It is recalled that the employee requested a “reward” of €4,000 to settle a case related to the payment of disability benefits to his mother.
In fact, the employee accepted … instalments for the services provided to the victim, as the woman was unable to pay the full 4,000 euros she had requested.
The agreement states, “Once the disability benefit is approved, you will pay 2,000 euros, and after that a further 2,000 euros will be paid,” otherwise the benefit will not be paid to her mother.
After the application was approved, EFKA staff immediately sent her a text message to remind her.

The employee was arrested by the Security Forces Internal Affairs Directorate for bribery and dereliction of duty, while her husband was also charged with conspiracy to commit bribery.
According to the complaint, an EFKA employee demanded €4,000 for processing a case for the payment of disability benefits, a fact that was also known to her husband, who was intervening in the final settlement of the issue.
The police then conducted an investigation, during which special investigative techniques were used, and involved the employee, who, for the positive outcome of her intervention and request, requested that the money be paid in two equal installments.
During a police operation carried out on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the defendant was arrested in an area of Athens after receiving a pre-marked amount.
The following items were found and seized during the search:
- 61,850 EUR,
- The pre-marked amount is 2,000 Euros,
- cell phone,
- USB stick and
- Handwritten notes.
The arrested women were brought before the competent prosecutor.
