The candidates include one from the National Congress Party (NC), two from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), two from the Apni Party, one from the People’s Congress Party, and one independent.

Seven candidates on Thursday filed nominations for different Kashmir assembly seats that will go to polls in the first phase on September 18, officials said.

The candidates include one from the Nationalist Congress (NC), two from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), two from the Apni Party, one from the Janata Dal and one independent candidate.

Officials said former Jammu and Kashmir minister and senior Nepali Congress leader Sakina Itoo has submitted her nomination from Damhal Hanji Pora in Kulgam district.

People’s Democratic Party Parliamentary Committee Chairman Mohammad Sartaj Madni filed his nomination papers from Devsar constituency while party general secretary Mehboob Beg filed his nomination papers from Anantnag constituency.

Officials said Abdul Majeed Padder of the APNI party filed the nomination papers from Damhal Hanji Pora while party leader Mohammad Altaf Mir filed papers from Pampore.

Nazir Ahmad Laway of the People’s Conference filed his nomination papers from Kulgam, they said.

Independent candidate Asif Nabi Dar filed his nomination papers for the Pulwama assembly seat.

The last date for nominations for 16 assembly constituencies in the Kashmir Valley is August 27. Eight seats in Jammu region will also go to elections in the first phase.
