August 5, Kathmandu. A pair of scissors went missing from a store at a Japanese airport, causing 36 flights to be cancelled. 201 flights were delayed beyond their scheduled time.
According to the BBC, the scissors stored at a store near the boarding pass counter at the domestic terminal of New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido went missing on Saturday morning, and flights were subsequently affected for safety reasons.
Security personnel conducted strict security checks on passengers at the airport. Passengers lined up in long queues.
The BBC wrote: “Authorities attempted to locate the missing scissors that day but were unable to do so. The scissors were found in the same store the following day.”
Passengers returning home after celebrating the annual Obon festival in Japan had to face the shock of the airport scissors scandal. “We had no choice but to wait,” said one passenger. “I think airlines should be more careful.”
Some also praised airport officials, saying it showed the airport authorities took passenger safety seriously.
New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido is one of the busiest airports, with 15 million passengers flying from the airport in 2022.
