I’d add that, as Sidey noted in the OP, the Senate map is tough for Democrats. I’d go a step further and say it’s terrible. Republicans are defending 10 seats (plus a special election) in Wyoming, North Dakota, Nebraska (+ a special election), Utah, Missouri, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, and Texas (typically safe red states).

Democrats are defending 23 seats, some in safe places like California, Massachusetts, and New York, but also in increasingly red states like West Virginia, Montana, and Ohio, and more purple states like Pennsylvania, Michigan (with an open seat), Nevada, Wisconsin, and Arizona, where we could be in a tight three-way race with independents. And that doesn’t even include Virginia, a state that Republicans did very well in 2021.

The Democrats really have no chance of offense, maybe they can run a good candidate against that poisonous toad, like Josh Hawley in Missouri, or Cruz in Texas, but I think we can all agree that Beto is done and 2018 is a better year for the Democrats than 2024. There may be other special elections though, for deaths, retirements, etc.

Of course, we have learned a lot now, never underestimate the Republican ability to turn around from the brink of victory, and never mess up. The Republican path to the Senate majority was littered with failed candidates, such as Christine O’Donnell (not a witch) and Todd Akin (pregnancy resulting from rape is a gift from God), Hershel Walker, Don Bolduc, Mehmet Oz, and so many more.
