Portugal defeated Slovenia on penalties (0-0, 3-0) in Frankfurt on Monday evening and advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Championship. Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved three shots from Slovenia to help his team qualify and return to France in Hamburg on Friday.
In Frankfurt that evening, Portugal dominated but was unable to turn the tide in the final 30 meters against a strong Slovenian team in the country’s first knockout match of a major tournament in history.
