A traffic accident occurred in Suriname last Saturday when a 13-year-old boy drove his father’s vehicle without permission, causing a collision.
The incident took place at the intersection leading to Waki Basu 2 and Brownsweg. Another pedestrian, Nococha K., 13, was injured.
According to Brownsweg police, the teenager, Daniel E., was driving the car without the necessary permission from his father. While driving, he caused the accident at a busy intersection.
The impact of the accident caused pedestrian Nococha K. to fall to the sidewalk and be injured.
Bystanders took quick action and rushed the injured Nokocha K. to the Brunswig Medical Mission Outpatient Department. Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was then taken to the Paramaribo University Hospital Emergency Department for further treatment.
Brownsweg police arrested Daniel E. on Sunday, August 4, following consultation with a member of the Surinamese Prosecution Office (OM).
Given the age of the suspect, the case has been transferred to the juvenile affairs department. The current focus of the investigation is on the specific circumstances of the incident and the responsibilities of the people involved.
