1-0 win over GC – Milosevic’s penalty gave St. Gallen the next win – Sport

• In the 4th round of the Chinese Super League, St. Gallen defeated GC 1-0 at home.
• Jovan Milosevic scored the only goal in the dying moments from a penalty kick.
• GC still has no victory and is at the bottom of the standings with one point.

Well-deserved in the end, but not confident overall: This is a short description of how St. Gallen managed to win its sixth consecutive victory in all competitions. Jovan Milosevic’s penalty was enough for the “Espen” team to win over the GC.

The substitute striker went down in the box after a duel with GC defender Ayumu Seko following a corner kick. From the referee Lucas Faendrich’s perspective, the intervention was enough to blow the penalty whistle. It was a controversial decision as Milosevic also pulled up his opponent’s shirt during the match.

Tobers missed a good chance to equalize

GC then made another effort and almost equalized the score through Christers Tobers in the 89th minute. However, the forward defender was blocked from close range by Lawrence Ati Zigi’s wonderful reaction in the St. Gallen goal.

Although Zurich improved on the outside and played a brave performance compared to the match against Basel a week ago (0:3), the victory of the home team was by no means stolen. Despite the double burden of the European Cup, Enrico Masson’s team dominated the game from the beginning and looked fresher.

The GC survived the first attack, then had to try its luck multiple times in a short period of time:

• 21 minutes: Conrad Faber, who had recently replaced Isaac Schmidt due to injury, hit the far post with a cross from the right. GC goalkeeper Justin Hamel instinctively opened his legs to prevent the ball from falling through his body and into the net.
• 23 minutes: This time Hamel can show his defensive skills. He was there when William Gobert shot.

Shortly afterwards, GC also joined the attack. However, Asumah Abubakar’s goal certainly did not count because it was offside (25th goal). Nevertheless, Zurich managed to relieve some of the pressure in the hot weather in Kybunpark before the half-time break and increasingly found a way forward. However, St. Gallen immediately took the lead again in the second half. Chadrac Akolo came on to make it 1-0, but he was alone in front of Hamel and lacked composure (48′).

After losing to Winterthur for the first time in the Super League, St. Gallen has now won three games in a row. On the other hand, GC is still waiting for the first three points after four matchdays and is currently at the bottom of the rankings.

The second leg of the third qualifying round of the Division League (first leg: 2-0) is scheduled for Thursday in St. Gallen. The following Sunday, they will face FC Marchantone of the 2nd Interregional League in the first round of the Swiss Cup. GC will start the cup competition in Regensdorf (2nd League) on the same day.
