Harare – National Security Service operatives have intensified their investigation into a series of shocking incidents at the home of Deputy Finance Minister David Kudakwashe Mnangagwa, son of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The latest in a string of disturbing incidents saw a fire break out at his home in Camel Hill Road, Borrowdale, late last night and again this morning following two recent break-ins at the property during which the intruders left behind gruesome bullet wounds.

The series of events has raised suspicions about a succession dispute within the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) and potential links to a financial corruption scandal, prompting the Zimbabwean government to step up security measures.

The troubles at Mnangagwa’s home began with two burglaries a few days earlier, in which unknown assailants left bullets at the scene, a chilling message that has attracted great attention from law enforcement and political circles.

Late last night, a fire broke out at Mnangagwa’s residence, causing extensive damage. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, but it was compounded by a fire that reignited early this morning. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but authorities are not ruling out deliberate intent given recent break-ins and the wider political context.

The incidents have sparked widespread speculation about the attackers’ motives. Some insiders believe the attack and subsequent shootings may be linked to a succession struggle within the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, with factions vying for power as President Mnangagwa’s leadership continues to be questioned. In addition, there are rumours that the incidents are linked to a corruption scandal within the Ministry of Finance, where Mnangagwa holds a key position.

In response to these disturbing events, law enforcement agencies have significantly stepped up their investigations. Security has been beefed up at Mnangagwa’s residence and a special team has been formed to investigate all possible leads. A thorough forensic examination of the crime scene and the cause of the fire is being conducted to gather evidence.

A police spokesman said: “We take these incidents extremely seriously and have deployed additional resources to ensure a full investigation. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”

The attacks and fires have sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s political landscape. Members of both the ruling ZANU-PF party and opposition parties have expressed concerns about the impact of the security breaches. Some have called for an independent investigation into the incidents to ensure transparency and accountability.

Deputy Finance Minister Mnangagwa has not made a public statement on the attack, but sources close to the Mnangagwa family said the escalating threats have left the family deeply uneasy.

This is not the first time that prominent Zimbabwean figures have faced such threats. The political climate in the country has been tense, with several incidents of politically motivated violence and intimidation. The recent incident at Mnangagwa’s home highlights the volatile nature of Zimbabwean politics and the lengths to which individuals or factions will go to maintain their dominance.

“As investigations continue, the Harare community and the nation are watching closely. Resolving these events is not only vital for the safety of Deputy Finance Minister David Mnangagwa and his family, but also for the broader stability and integrity of Zimbabwe’s political environment. The authorities remain committed to uncovering the truth behind these shocking events and ensuring that justice is served.”
