Amdouni: “Bayern? That’s not a problem for me.”

Zeki Amdouni had an exciting year. At Burnley, he got the playing time he hoped for, but then was relegated from the Premier League with the club from the northwest of England. His coach, Vincent Kompany, would also leave the club for Munich.

Vincent Kompany is considered a supporter of Zeki Amdouni (23), as the Belgian was one of the main reasons why the Geneva native joined Burnley last summer. “He is a very good and still young coach,” said Amdouni. He is similar to Guardiola. He learned a lot under Kompany and made great progress in his physical fitness. “The training is almost as intense as the games.”

Now his mentor is answering the call at Bayern. Will the Nadal striker do the same? “That’s not a problem for me,” Amdouni said with a smile. But he made no secret that he doesn’t necessarily want to play in the second division next season. “If Burnley want me to stay, then I will stay.” But his goal is to play in the top flight. His contract with the relegated team runs until 2028.

A successful season – despite relegation

Despite the relegation, he does not consider his first season abroad to be a failure: “Personally, I had a good season. I got game time, scored goals, stayed fit and, most importantly, I made huge progress physically.” He is a better player than when he left Basel for 18 million francs a year ago.

Amdouni does not think the bad end to the season will have a negative impact on the national team. “Of course, in the first few days of the training camp you reflect a little bit on the season.” The new chapter will begin at the latest with the test game next week. Amdouni played an important role at the European Cup because the striker became the biggest problem child of the national team due to the injury of Breel Embolo.

“It’s important that we create chances for ourselves. If we can do that, then we can score goals as well,” Amdouni says. He doesn’t consider himself a classic No. 9. “I prefer to play behind the striker,” says the Geneva native. “But I can be used in many different ways.” He makes no claims or demands. “The most important thing is that I’m playing.”
