The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Authority (ZAMMSA) board of directors has announced the immediate suspension of its director general, Victor Nyasulu. The decision was made following the discovery of 61 containers filled with various medicines and medical supplies at a private warehouse in Makeni area of Lusaka.
Acting Board Chairperson Dr. Lisulo Walubita said the board deeply regretted the incident and stressed that such incidents undermine the integrity and trust of ZAMMSA. “The ZAMMSA Board deeply regrets that this incident occurred,” Dr. Walubita said.
Despite the setback, Dr. Walubita assured the public that ZAMMSA operations and services at all public health facilities will continue uninterrupted. The Board is committed to maintaining the agency’s role in ensuring the supply of essential medicines and supplies across the country.
Mr Nyasulu’s suspension underscores ZAMMSA’s commitment to accountability and transparency in its operations. The Board is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the storage of medicines and medical supplies in private warehouses.
The public and health sector stakeholders will be watching developments closely as ZAMMSA works to fulfil its mandate and restore confidence in its operations.
