Today’s Scripture
David danced with all his might before the LORD, wearing a linen ephod. He and all the Israelites brought up the ark of the LORD’s covenant with shouts and trumpets.
2 Samuel 6:14–15, NIV
Keep celebrating
Friends, in 2 Samuel 6, David and his men had just recovered the Ark of the Covenant. The people were cheering, trumpets were blasting, cymbals were banging. David was so excited that he was dancing. He was a noble king, but he was unabashedly celebrating God’s goodness. When his wife Michal saw him dancing, she was filled with contempt and criticized him for being like a vulgar person. David responded, “I am celebrating in the presence of the Lord, not you. Your opinion of me will not stop me from being myself.” David was not controlled by what others thought.
When you honor God and do your best, some people will find fault with you. They won’t approve of you unless you lower your standards and conform to their ideas. That’s okay. Be a David. Have an attitude that says, “I don’t need your approval. I put God first. I’m going to live my life honestly. When things are hard, I’m going to do the right thing.”
Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for the people in my life who praise You and approve of me. However, when others find fault with me or try to change me, help me to honor You and do the best I can. I declare that I will worship and serve You with all my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
