When the calendar marks the start of the big holiday season, a world of possibilities opens up for us young people. This eagerly anticipated period in the school year is a window of opportunity for freedom, exploration, and rest. However, what we look for in our free time and what companies expect of us can often seem like two very different worlds that rarely meet.

For us, vacation is synonymous with freedom. It is the time to get away from the stress of school, breathe and enjoy life to the fullest. The image of summer is filled with activities such as attending social events, traveling and unforgettable experiences. The promise of new horizons and the opportunity to create precious memories is what really attracts us.

However, for businesses, this is a valuable period to identify and develop new talent. Internships, trainee programs and temporary jobs are often launched in the hope of attracting promising young people. The idea is that we can contribute, learn and eventually become a permanent part of the team.

However, there is often a mismatch between our wishes and the company’s offers. Corporate reality with its routines and requirements seems to contrast sharply with the energy of summer.

Companies need to understand that in order to attract us, they must offer experiences that go beyond traditional management tasks. We are attracted to real challenges, practical learning opportunities and environments that foster personal development. Internship programs that include interesting projects, continuous feedback and true integration with the team are more attractive than those that focus only on daily tasks.

To achieve a balance, companies must adjust their approach with more attractive proposals that combine learning, enriching experiences and flexibility. Projects that offer challenging projects, active mentoring and a true integration with the company culture have the potential to attract our interest. Companies need to understand that summer is a time of energy and inspiration, not just a time to train a temporary, short-term workforce.

Additionally, creating experiences where we can make a real impact and feel valued can change our perception of the corporate world. When an internship or temporary work experience is designed to be enriching and in line with our personal aspirations, the result can be real motivation and a deeper investment on our part.

If both sides can find a middle ground, then both sides win in the end. Companies that create opportunities that cater to our interests and expectations can attract highly motivated, ambitious talent. On the other hand, we young people who view vacations as opportunities to grow professionally while not completely giving up on fun can turn internship experiences into springboards for future opportunities.

At the end of the day, the beginning of the big holiday season is a much-anticipated moment for us and a strategic period for businesses. If they know how to harness the potential of our energy and creativity, if we can see the value of the opportunities presented, we will all win. I doubt it, because I had exactly this opportunity, and today I am evolving in the company I started, and I cannot thank you enough for every opportunity and learning I have gained!
