The population forecast for 2024 by the Angolan National Institute (INE) shows that the country will have more than 35 million inhabitants, most of whom are women and young people.
These figures are not far from the reality in Africa, which is currently the youngest continent in the world and has a rapidly growing population.
Experts believe that Africa will have to make up much of the population decline in the rest of the world in the coming decades, as by 2050 a quarter of the world’s working-age population could be African.
Current data shows that today, more than 60% of Africans are under the age of 25, and this demographic dynamic presents huge challenges and opportunities.
Like the African continent, Angola is required to conduct a census every ten years, which is a regularly conducted survey designed to collect population data for a specific territory.
In Angola, the census will be conducted nationwide, covering 18 provinces, 164 municipalities and 562 communes, districts, streets and villages in urban and rural areas, and the collection work will last 30 days.
The census will achieve a series of goals, such as improving the formulation of public policies, making them more confident, achieving true fairness in the distribution of wealth, and should promote the indispensable elements of opportunity such as access to education, health, employment, housing construction, etc.
I am not trying to argue that conducting a census effectively translates into equal access to available resources, but rather that it allows policymakers to be better informed in designing such policies and thus closer to reality.

This is one of the ways to participate in the public and political life of the country because by conducting the census process, public policy makers can have more information to make better decisions.
It is true that sometimes things are not as they seem, but it is clear that without indicators it is like looking in the dark, so it is better to engage in an inclusive and comprehensive process like the Census.
