MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion to charge the 16-year-old as an adult in the fatal crash in Hickory Hills that killed three women and injured six others.
The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest and illegal possession of weapons, including a machine gun.
According to Memphis police, on Aug. 20 around 9:45 p.m., officers saw a black Chrysler sedan that was reported stolen and attempted to stop the vehicle near Getwell and Cottonwood, but the driver refused to stop.
Police lost the 16-year-old driver until he ran a red light, causing a five-car crash involving Raines and Kirby.
According to the accident report, the 16-year-old driver was speeding and driving recklessly when he struck a Chevrolet Malibu head-on with three women and a baby inside.
The teen was released from the hospital on Aug. 24 and taken to juvenile court, according to MPD.
