I’m a British expat living in Oman since September 2019. I host a show on Hi FM radio from 4pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday. When I’m not in the studio, you can find me reading a book or hiking.

I really like Oman; the community spirit here is so welcoming and contagious; I feel like a friendlier person after spending time with Omanis and other people who have lived here, and they have always been so nice to me. I feel safe here and I am proud to call this place my home. When my mum came to visit she was very shocked and confused that we had left our luggage unattended in Wadi Shab and that no one had stolen anything, sadly this would not happen in my home country.

Anyone who truly experiences the natural beauty of Oman falls in love with it. I have travelled here many times and whether it is admiring the view from the balcony of Jabal Shams or swimming in the quiet, sparkling, beautiful pools of Wadi Hoquain, you develop this appreciation for nature.

Further south, Salalah’s magical greenery is so unique that the Kharif Quarter has become a grand attraction. If you visit between June and September, you can’t miss the beautiful Ein Atum and other waterfalls that dot the landscape.

For first time visitors, if you are looking for a remote area off the beaten track and like swimming in the Wadi, there is a smaller and quieter Wadi very close to the famous Sal steps and not far from Muscat. I don’t even know its name as it is not written on the map but I have been there several times and love it there. There are small fishes that give you a foot spa, they will bite your feet, there is a rope for you to try to climb, and some goats will cheer you on when you jump in the water.

Many foreigners who come to Oman for work may have intended to stay here only for a short time. Oman has a way of enchanting you and tugging at your heartstrings, just like it did to me, and five years later, I am still here.
