Hashid Network-Aden
The Yemeni government reiterates its call on the United Nations and all international agencies to relocate their headquarters to the temporary capital, Aden, as this will ensure a safe and appropriate working environment for these organizations and the provision of humanitarian services to all Yemenis in all regions of Yemen without obstacles or restrictions.
The Yemeni government strongly condemned the kidnapping by Houthi militia terrorists in a letter to the President of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Hwang Jong-guk, Permanent Representative of the friendly Republic of Korea, which was circulated to the members of the Security Council. Dozens of staff of UN agencies and international and local non-governmental organizations have been carrying out activities in Yemen in recent days, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, directly threatening the lives and safety of these staff.
The government confirmed in its statement that the soft language policy adopted by the United Nations and the international community towards the Houthi militias in the past few years has encouraged these terrorist militias to continue to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law, and we call on relevant parties to take action. The distinguished Security Council, the United Nations and other actors in the international community must take urgent measures to put pressure on the Houthi militias, ensure the safety of the detainees and release them immediately and unconditionally.
Calls on the Yemeni Government, the Security Council and the international community, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen and organizations concerned with human rights to assume legal and moral responsibility, to strongly and unequivocally condemn these criminal acts as they are a blatant violation of national legislation and international laws and conventions, to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure that they do not enjoy impunity, and to put pressure on the Houthi militias to release all those abducted, detained, and those forcibly disappeared in prisons.
The statement pointed out that according to reports and reliable information, Houthi terrorists attacked the homes of some activists and the headquarters of international and local organizations, kidnapped some employees of these organizations, and confiscated their electronic devices. So far, the number of kidnapped people has reached more than 50 employees of international and local organizations, including four women, one of whom was arrested with her husband and children. The operation is still ongoing and has not been kidnapped yet. The kidnapped people have no idea about their situation.
The statement pointed out that the Houthi militia sentenced 44 people to death on charges of espionage, which was an illegal political ruling that did not comply with the minimum trial procedures, and lawyers were unable to access case files to defend the defendants. They were subjected to the most severe torture, enforced disappearance and deprivation of family visits… Explain that these arrests are part of a series of crimes, violations and fabricated charges against activists, opponents and illegal activists. For many years, they have been employees of the Houthi militia.
“The Yemeni government has repeatedly warned over the years that it is dangerous to ignore the Houthi militia’s violations, criminal acts and their methods of blackmail and pressure on humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen,” the statement said. “The militia seeks to serve its illegal political agenda and exploit aid and human rights for its security and military goals and transform the areas under its control into large prisons to detain anyone who opposes its policies.”
