Workshop that dumped chemical waste into Matasnillo River fined more than $9,000 – El País

Panama City/A Panama City body shop and paint shop was fined $9,999 for illegally dumping hydrocarbon and petroleum waste into the Matasnillo River.

The entity said it has collaborated with the Panama Gulf Sanitation Program (PSP), which has sent the public agency technical reports showing the discharge of this and other types of pollutants in the Panama Gulf. Matas Nillo and Kulundu rivers and others in Panama City.

In addition to economic sanctions, such serious environmental violations may also be subject to orders to adjust the situation and, depending on the severity of the violation, Suspension of future business activities.

MiAmbiente is currently organizing an operation to detect other possible illegal discharges into the Matasnillo River, an effort that will be jointly carried out by field technicians from the National Aqueduct and Sewerage Institute (IDAAN), the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and the PSP.
