Alma Pelo Zagorčić, vice-president of the initiative, noted that tonight’s panel discussion is part of the two-year project “(In)visible Women in Mostar and Herzegovina”.
– Our goal is to show through these panels the importance and necessity of women in all sectors of society, our ultimate goal is to have a public space in the city of Mostar named after a famous woman we present in our publication “Invisible Women of Mostar and Herzegovina” – says Pelo Zagorčić.
Talking about the participation of women in the KUD in Mostar, she said that according to the information they have, in cultural and artistic societies there is one group of boys (men) for every three groups of women.
– The position of choreographer is usually held by women, but when it comes to management positions, such as the chairmanship of the KUD, it is exclusively a male position. Today we find that in Jablanica and Kiseljak women are chairmen of the KUD, which tells us that the situation is beginning to change slightly. We hope to move a little faster, but I hope that we can transfer these bright examples to Mostar, and maybe in future panels we will talk about women in leading positions in cultural and artistic society. “, stressed Pero Zagorčić.
Tonight’s panelists were two presidents of the KUD, who spoke about the status, work and overall work of the Mostar Culture and Art Association, while two former members of the KUD spoke about their time as active members.
The importance of women’s contribution to the preservation of original folklore, songs, customs and costumes was highlighted, and the key role played by women in cultural and artistic societies in preserving cultural heritage was emphasized.
