The Central Suriname Traffic Zone Department warned motorists not to use public roads as race tracks. This was the result of a single-vehicle accident in which a woman’s car ended up in a canal.
According to the driver’s statement, she was driving at high speed on the left Taut Lui Fautweg, a dirt road, in the direction of Indira Ghandiweg.
She lost control of the steering wheel due to ripples on the road and the car came to rest on the edge of the shoulder. She got out to calm down but the car then slid into the canal (pictured).
The woman had a valid Surinamese driving license and was not under the influence of alcohol.
“Please consider the safety of third parties as well as yourself. An accident could happen just around the corner,” police said.
