Microsoft plans to introduce an AirDrop-like feature in Windows for quickly transferring files between PCs and Android mobile devices.
The new tool will appear in Windows 10 and Windows 11 and will work similarly to the AirDrop principle used in Apple devices. The Windows Central portal writes that the first information about this issue has been published on the official Microsoft support website, which indicates that sending files between Android and Windows will be done through the Phone Connection application.
Once the devices are synced, users simply right-click on the file, select the Share option, and then select Link to Phone. The file will be sent to the connected device, with no additional confirmation required to receive the data.
To activate the new features, you must be running Windows 10 with May 2019 Update or later, or Windows 11. Your mobile device must be running Android 9.0 or later, the Link to Windows app version must be 1.24032.518.0 or later, and your computer must be running Android 9.0 or later and the Phone Connection app version 1.24032.156.0 or later must be installed.
The feature is currently being tested by Insiders on the Release Preview channel. An exact release date for the new feature has not yet been announced.
