Answering the call of ornithologists, AS”Distribution NetworkThe portal “Delfi” learned from the company that a cooperation agreement was signed with the Latvian Ornithological Society (LOB) aimed at promoting the recovery of the population of specially protected peregrine falcons (Falcotinnunculus) in Latvia.

During the cooperation with LOB, it is planned to install up to 300 bird cages (an average of 50 cages per year) on the low-voltage racks of the “distribution network”, where field falconry researchers – ornithologists Edgars Lediņš and Aigars Kalvāns – will also place tracking cameras for bird observation. The cages will be located in seven plots: Grobinė, Ventspils, Talsi, Saldu, Skrīveri, Tukum and Eleja. According to ornithologists, six cages installed near Grobinė are already inhabited.

Despite being a predator, the Peregrine Falcon is a gentle bird that inhabits open areas of trees and bushes away from humans. It feeds on a variety of small rodents, reptiles, and small birds. The nesting season for these birds begins in April, and usually three to six eggs are laid in a clutch. The young birds hatch in late May or early June, but usually grow to flying age by two to three years old.
