Widespread rainfall was recorded across the country over the weekend, particularly in the dry south, with more rain expected in some areas.
The Namibian Meteorological Agency has predicted moderate to heavy rain with possible isolated to scattered thundershowers in Kunene, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Khomas and Hardap regions this week.
There will be showers in the southern areas of Rehoboth, Keetmanshoop, Karasburg, Grünau, Leonardville, Gotchas, Aranos, Aroab, Kos, Helmelinghausen and Namib.
Despite 10 millimetres of rain in Mariental and 18 to 29 millimetres in the Hardap block, Dawie de Klerk, chairman of the Hardap Farmers Association, told Namibia Media Holdings that no water had flowed into the Hardap Dam. “There were only sporadic showers but unfortunately no water flowed in,” he said.
According to the latest dam bulletin, the dam is currently at 12.2 percent full.
In the north, the Otavi Valley received 14 mm to 18 mm of snow, Ginas received 19 mm and Grootfontein received 5 mm.
In Windhoek, various suburbs recorded between 5mm and 50mm of rain. In the Brakwater and Elisenheim estates north of the capital, a strong hailstorm dropped 50mm of rain in just 35 minutes, causing damage to trees. At Drie Krone farm east of Windhoek, 30mm of rain was recorded.
