In China’s Guizhou province, there are about a dozen conical hills that are known as the “Anlong Pyramids” because of their resemblance to the more famous Egyptian pyramids. In recent years, the Chinese analog region has become a popular tourist destination, thanks in part to these pyramid mountains, which have captured the imaginations of millions of people around the world. In addition to their pyramidal shapes, these mountains and hills also feature layers of rock that are stacked on top of each other in such an orderly fashion that you’d swear someone (or something) placed them that way.
Since photos and videos of the “Anlong Pyramids” began to circulate online around 2018, conspiracy theories about their origins have also begun to emerge. Despite experts’ efforts to convince the public that these pyramids are completely natural, some people still believe that they are natural and were created by a mysterious culture in ancient times – or aliens.
Professor Zhao Qiuwen of Guizhou University said that the so-called “pyramids” in Anlong County are just typical examples of karst landforms, dating back about 200 million years. He explained that in the distant past, when the area was still a shallow sea, minerals began to dissolve in the water and recrystallize into dolomite, the main component of today’s pyramids.
