After winning gold in the mixed race walking relay at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Daniel Pintado and Glenda Morejón will go for Olympic gold in that event tomorrow when the race starts at 00:30.
Pintado entered the event as the champion of the 20 km race walk. Morejón finished sixth in the women’s category and received a diploma. Tricolore runners David Hurtado and Paula Torres also joined the relay.
In these competitions, in search of an innovative format, World Athletics and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) cancelled the 50 km test and implemented a mixed relay in which men and women had to run a marathon distance: four stages of a little more than 10 km each, for a total of 42,195 km.
