Where should unused medicines go? They should never be thrown into ordinary waste containers. The simplest solution is to throw unused medications into specially designed containers, which are most commonly found in pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, and offices. We can often find them in larger stores, too.
We can also return unused medicines to local selective municipal waste collection points (PSZOK). There are such points in every commune. We should also bring unused needles, syringes, Used compresses or mercury thermometers.
Where should unused medicines be disposed of?
When discarding medication, remember not to remove it from its packaging. This is the best solution for the environment.
We discard empty pharmaceutical packaging following the general waste separation rules: cartons and leaflets go into the blue paper container, plastic bottles and tubes go into the yellow container, and glass bottles go into the green container.
Where we throw away empty blisters depends on what they are made of – blisters made of only plastic or only aluminium should go in the yellow bin, but blisters made of both plastic and aluminium should go in the mixed waste.
