Libreville, Tuesday, August 6, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – Jean-Paul Moumbembe, Alain Mba Ondo and Gisèle Eyue Bekale, lawyers for Hervé-Patrick Opiangah, who filed a complaint against the company Webcor ITP, explained the outlines of the case.
While claiming to have noticed many inconsistencies in the matter, the defence of the President of the Union for Development and Social Integrity (UDIS) reassured public opinion that he was determined to follow through on his actions to achieve light and bring light to the Gabonese people to understand why the nation-state gave up its fiscal advantages for the benefit of big foreign interests?
It is in this context that “we presented charges of embezzlement, tax fraud and treason to the prosecutor”, explained Maître Jean-Paul Moumbembe at the press conference they organized in Libreville last July 31st.
Masters Alain Mba Ondo and Gisèle Eyue Bekale went in the same direction, expressing serious doubts about the reasons for such a turn of events. “Our client Hervé-Patrick Ompiangah questioned the benefits of such an agreement, despite the Gabonese government winning its appeal. Why did the Gabonese government decide to abandon its interests? For our clients, this action amounts to confiscation, extortion and treason,” Me Mba Ondo pointed out.
For her part, Me Gisèle Eyue Bekale expressed her opinion this way: “Why did the Gabonese state sign a memorandum of understanding that puts it in a difficult position? How do we explain that Gabon, which is in a strong position in this matter, demanded this deal?”
The three lawyers said the risk was huge. Although the Gabonese government had won its appeal at the Paris Court of Appeal a few months ago, Gabon could lose six and a half (6.5) billion CFA francs if it dropped the case.
