Scientists at Harvard Medical School found that only one in 10 people will age healthily. Meanwhile, women have a 29% higher chance of healthy aging than men.
Milli.Az cited oksu.az as reporting that researchers have identified four main factors that contribute to effective healthy aging: the absence of chronic diseases, a stable mental state, maintaining mental activities and regular social contact.
It turns out that only 11.9% of the participants (almost one in ten) met these criteria. The scientists also calculated that those who led a healthy lifestyle – which included eating a balanced diet, getting regular physical activity, not smoking and drinking alcohol in moderation – were 3.5 times more likely to age well.
The study found that women were 29% more likely to age healthily than men. Additionally, higher education levels and income were associated with better health in their 50s and older.
