How do I know if I am entitled to a disability pension?

The required years of service are determined by age:

  • Up to 20 years – less than 1 year,
  • 20 to 24 years old – at least 1 year,
  • Over 24 to 28 years old – at least 2 years,
  • Over 28 to 34 years old – at least 5 years,
  • 34 years and above but below 40 years – at least 8 years,
  • Over 40 to 45 years old – at least 10 years,
  • Over 45 years – at least 15 years.

  • Under specially provided conditions, a natural person who became disabled while he was a dependent child may also be entitled to a disability pension (so-called youth disability pension), provided he permanently resides in the Slovak Republic. The right to this pension arises first of all from the date of reaching the age of 18.
  • A natural person is also entitled to a disability pension if he or she becomes disabled during full-time doctoral studies, is under 26 years of age and has permanent residence in the Slovak Republic.
  • Insured persons who are disabled due to work-related accidents or occupational diseases, as well as natural persons who have dependent children or are disabled while studying for a full-time doctorate and have not reached the legal age and are 26 years of age or older, are deemed to meet the above-mentioned pension insurance period conditions.
