On May 22, 2024, Hun Sen, President of the Senate and Chairman of the ruling party, proposed to re-enact a law to target those who do not recognize the genocidal regime. The goal is to punish anyone who claims that a genocidal regime does not exist in Cambodia. It should be recalled that 10 years ago, the National Assembly passed a law against the non-recognition of crimes committed during the Khmer Rouge regime. So will the law proposed by Mr. Hun Sen now be different from the law 10 years ago? For some analysts, Hun Sen’s proposed laws now only threaten the opposition.
