St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): With Troy Nisbett as the Federation’s sole swimming representative at the Olympics, national coach James Weeks is confident the youngster will gain valuable experience from the event.

Weeks and Nisbett left the federation last weekend, with the youngster undergoing intensive training before jumping into the pool on August 1. Weeks told WINN Sports via WhatsApp: “I believe this is a fantastic opportunity for him and the federation to showcase the potential we have on this small island, despite the lack of dedicated swimming facilities.”

The national coach and others in the swimming community have been advocating for increased resources to swimming, given that athletes have been training in the Caribbean. “Preparations are going well and on track,” Weeks commented. “I am proud that despite being one of the smallest nations at these Games, we are making a big impact and making history.”

He continued: “This experience has also inspired me to work harder to get more swimmers to the level where they can compete.” Weeks finally expressed his gratitude to the National Olympic Committee for allowing them to participate in the Olympics.

Nisbet is one of three athletes selected to represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the Paris Olympics, all of whom qualified through the general suffrage quota. “General suffrage quotas are qualification places allocated to a National Olympic Committee that does not have a qualified athlete, allowing that National Olympic Committee to compete in the Olympic Games,” the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee said.
