“It is increasingly likely that this will be our last meeting. We worked quickly and completed the main task of organizing fair and free elections. We put out the fires, we kept calm and, despite political provocations and innuendos, we preserved Bulgaria’s main priorities.”
This was reported by Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev at today’s regular meeting of the Council of Ministers. This will be the last of this government, and the cabinet of Gorica Grancharova is expected to take office next week. She has to decide by August 19 which ministers she will work with.
Glavchev noted that by the end of this year, our country will achieve the last criterion of the euro zone.
He also reported that his office had prepared 20 draft laws that had been submitted to Parliament, including changes to the Road Traffic Act aimed at reducing road injuries.
“In a strange way, we have imposed another priority on the National Children’s Hospital. The first phase, the clearing of the site, was completed several months earlier than originally estimated, but it has not been implemented for years,” continued Grafchev.
“The representatives who represented Bulgaria managed to host the most successful Olympics in 20 years. We do not attribute any success here, the state is usually the debtor. No matter how much money the state gives, it is not enough, but thanks must be given to the athletes who bring glory to Bulgaria”, he also commented.
“The Bulgarian government has made a contribution, as the Ministry of Sports has found sponsors specifically for weightlifting, as they are in danger of not participating in the Olympics at all, to cover the necessary expenses and finance preparations for the Games. In addition to this, prize money will be paid to everyone who finishes in eighth place,” the prime minister assured.
Olympic athletes receive 250,000 leva for a gold medal, 200,000 leva for a silver medal and 100,000 leva for a bronze medal.
