The land loves them so much. I don’t know if it’s because they bring calm to the chaos in our country or because our love for arabesque has grown exponentially over the past few years. One of the groups that has helped to lift the dark clouds over our heads is The King of ConvenienceKnowing this, the organizers once again invited the Norwegian “King of Convenience” of Iftar to our country. And this time, for two nights. We attended the first concert of Zorlu PSM there.
As one of our team’s keen ears, Irem, has previously written, the album released last year peace or loveending 12 years of waiting. As Irem detailed One of the most important reasons it has lasted so long is the band’s insistence on making records that truly resonate with them. Kings of Convenience is a band that truly cares about doing justice to their work and making records they can be proud to stand behind. I think we also witnessed this sensitivity during their live performance at the Istanbul concert last night.
While I think sitting concerts is a complete mistake, the seating arrangement at last night’s King of Convenience concert was a detail that further enhanced the atmosphere of the concert. The hazy singing of the band brought the listener into a dream state, which made me feel heavy and wanted to surrender to the moment completely. So much so that, although I thought the arrangement was strange at first, after listening to a few songs, I put aside the routine but pleasant concert concerns such as holding a beer in my hand and not getting too close to the person next to me, and tried to see the band. It felt good to sit on the sofa and let the weight fall on me.
The King of Convenience mainly sings songs from 12 years later in the show. peace or love He performed live recordings from the album. The duo of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe (yes, I copied their names from the Internet so I could write the accents) made us feel like they were right next to us with their two guitars and their immediate presence. Sometimes even Erlend “Because he is with us now.” He expressed his gratitude to the universe. He asked that the lights be dimmed so that he could see us more closely.
We continued at this pace until the last four songs of the concert, heading for the encore. Although this structure of the concert added warmth to the performance, it also made us feel that it was lacking in some of the big production songs. The loyal Turkish audience succeeded in this task without even missing the key of the song. In some songs, the band gave us small music lessons. So we kept the rhythm in their songs to accompany them.
In the last four songs before the encore (fever, The boat behind, Rule my world have I’d rather dance with you) The band was accompanied by two musicians from Mexico, who had met on the road and were subsequently invited to join the tour. With the addition of drums and bass, their performance of these songs met Erlend’s teenage dancing, creating a complete song. “Civil Gathering” output. The rich melodies of drums and bass also enriched the performance. So, after an hour of silence, we left our dreams behind and left our seats. The 2022 Zorlu PSM concert by Kings of Convenience was an experience that made every listener feel like they were the only one with the band. Hundreds of people who felt the same came together and made me feel like part of the audience for the first time in a long time. First, we sat in our seats, enjoying the moment and getting lost in the music. Then we all stood up and danced as if in honor of all the emotions we were feeling. I’m not a big fan of Kings of Convenience, but I can still say that a concert of this band is an experience you don’t want to miss.
